Facts about the lungs
1. Lungs are the only organ in your body that floats. 2. Average person breaths in the equivalent of 13 pints of air per minute. 3. If the lungs where opened up and laid out flat, they would cover a tennis court. The human lungs have a surface area equivalent to a tennis count. 4. Air is 21% oxygen. We only need 5% oxygen. Getting rid of the Carbon Dioxide is a huge part of breathing. (but we REALLY need that 5% oxygen! 5. 70% of waste is eliminated through the lungs (CO2) 6. Humans exhale up to 17.5 cubic centimeters of water per hour. (17.5 ml) 7. In humans, the left lung is smaller than the right lung in order to make room for the heart. 8. You breath an average of 17,000 to 23,000 times a day. |
