Meaningful Sentence
Definition: A meaningful sentence tells the reader something and shows that the writer understands the meaning of the word.
Checking Strategy: Take the spelling word out of the sentence. If you can insert other random words (within reason) in its place and the sentence still makes sense, it is not meaningful. Often just using a synonym or antonym in the sentence can quickly make it meaningful. Another way of putting it is to use context clues in your sentence to prove the meaning of the word.
Box and Underline: Place a circle around the spelling word and underline the words or phrase that tell something about the spelling word.
EXAMPLE: My dad was bewildered and confused because I kept hiding his car keys, but mom said it wasn’t nice to tease an old man.
